“Not because my reactions differ greatly from theirs, but because there are elements of the discourse surrounding the conflict, in particular online, that can feel existentially frightening in a way they might not understand.”

Being 71, with Jewish blood, I’m very disappointed to say that hate seems to be in the DNA of human beings; inflection points of hate in all of human history have come very close to succeeding in annihilation of the targeted scapegoats of hate; somehow, the Universe allowed the bloodlust to consume multitudes of innocents, and yet always stopped short in the continuing cycle of human hate.

However, never was hate able to be promoted, in lies and conspiracy theories, as hate has been able to be promoted in the digital age of connectedness with the Internet and social media platforms giving the individual an outsized ability to spread the hate.

In the States we are at a crossroads where hate is running neck and neck to cross the finish line and win out; religion, which markets itself as love, perversely is the biggest promoter of hate; religion gives haters the blessing to massacre the “other.”

Hannah, do your best to live a life that is an example of love, tolerance and understanding.

Human beings are the lowest form of life in the Universe.
